That's when I decided that I didn't want to live my life so miserably anymore. A friend found me with a razor blade and she tried to take it from me. I was a self-harmer from 15 to 19 when a moment of clarity came. I had the option to move back home to Michigan but I didn't because I couldn't leave my mom alone. That's not to say that I haven't had my fair share of ups and downs. Human emotion is a tricky thing and often unpredictable. Perhaps, I'm being oversensitive but I can't help the way I feel. The last thing that I want from a friend is to feel that way as well. Where I was always told I was wrong, didn't know what I was talking about or just generally an idiot. Of course, this is no one's fault but my own but that doesn't make things any easier. It's embarrassing to know that you've not done more with your life or that you've made bad choices which led to your uneducation. What does it feel like you might ask? It's embarrassing to say the least. Meanwhile.you're the eldest of the group by quite a few years and you've never done more than walk onto a college campus. Probably not many of you know what it might feel like to sit around with a group of people, whether organically or in a Skype chat, that are young college students. Being angry is a much easier emotion for me to deal with when sadness or hurt because I feel less weak. I tend to get bitchy, nasty and childish when I'm upset. Don’t have money for a class? Because once we get back, it’s back to business. And with it almost being time to head back to school, we could use the extra time to prepare ourselves for a kick ass school year. Passionate yoga practitioners note that yoga is helpful in aiding one in becoming more mentally, physically and spiritually rejuvenated. " The rising binge-watching culture is not all bad, however, as one New York Times writer claims that watching a streamed series is "more like reading a book." Complete with culturally relevant themes, character development, plot, conflict, exposition, climax and resolution, analyzing a television series or film can yield the same kind of response teachers seek from current summer reading activities.Įvery year in my hometown, we hold four annual celebrations: the African American festival, Artscape, the Stone Soul picnic and HonFest, which are all outdoor festivals filled with loud music, great food, and lots of cool vendors selling a plethora of goodies.

As attention has clearly shifted away from literature, interested educators can hope to turn to the new "center of attention" for ideas on how to re-vamp summer homework.
